American Red Cross volunteers and local fire departments are working together to install free smoke alarms. They are available in several communities and on Feb. 29, teams will visit homes in Greenfield to install the alarms, as well as distribute fire prevention and earthquake preparedness information.
Last year, the Red Cross Central Coast Chapter said volunteers installed 1,500 smoke alarms in three counties.
