A rare case of a rodent-borne virus was recently diagnosed in Santa Cruz. As such, Santa Cruz county health officials have issued a warning about Hanta Virus Pulmonary Syndrome, which is generally contracted by a human coming in contact with the urine, droppings, or saliva of a wild rodent…usually Deer Mice, which are a commonly found two-toned mouse….that has a deer-colored back and a white underside. Symptoms of Hanta Virus Pulmonary Syndrome start with fever, headache, and muscle aches…..and progress to the person having severe breathing difficulties.
