The recent rain has been causing difficulties for some area farmers. The super-saturated ground, that led to trees falling in the Santa Cruz Mountains and Carmel, also means that farm equipment can’t be driven in many local fields to harvest the heavier crops. That means that people need to do it by hand, and that means it takes longer and drives up the cost for that crop. Along with the rain slowing down the process, on the mornings, like today, where there is frost, they have to wait for the plants to thaw out, or the workers could damage them.
