Pajaro Valley Unified School District trustees have voted to de-fund their School Resource Officers. The vote was 5 to 2, with trustees Georgia Acosta and Daniel Dodge Junior dissenting. The 2 cited concerns about student and staff safety at Watsonville High School in particular for their decision not to back the de-funding which was largely considered for 2 reasons…….budget constraints, and the continuation of distance learning. The money that had gone into having s-r-os is expected to be used to hire a new social-emotional counselor for Aptos, Pajaro Valley and Watsonville High Schools.
P.V.U.S.D, which serves nearly 20,000 students, is the largest school district in Santa Cruz county.
