A developer is considering building rental housing on 3 acres in and outside Watsonville city limits. The Developer with Atkinson Lane Associates is proposing 40-units to be built on parcels of unincorporated land near Atkinson Lane and Freedom Boulevard. City officials say there is no immediate need for new housing due to high foreclosure rates and the expansion could be delayed for several years beyond the initially projected date of 2011.
