A prescription drug take back event took place in Monterey county on Saturday. Authorities say that disposal events cut down on crime, accidental overdose and or misuse of drugs. The take back events are also scheduled because it is illegal to improperly discard prescription drugs. For residents that missed the event most pharmacies will dispose of unused medications on a daily basis. Last year similar events across the country disposed of 456 tons of unneeded medications.
