Shortly after 7 AM, a power outage was reported by Pacific Gas and Electric which affected customers west of the San Lorenzo River in downtown Santa Cruz, UCSC, Davenport, and residents along Empire Grade as well as Smith Grade.
Over 5,000 customers lost their electricity during this outage.
Electricity was restored shortly before 8:30 AM.
The cause of outage is currently being investigated, and this is the fourth instance in less than a month that Santa Cruz County experienced a widespread power outage with previous instances taking place on December 15, December 21, and Christmas Eve.
