Update: This story has been corrected to reflect that 2/3 of the new staff would be hired for frontline purposes, not administrative.
On Friday, the California State Governor proposed a state budget that will call for hiring nearly 700 full-time staff for Cal Fire.
With this proposal, about one-third of the new staff would be hired for administrative roles, whereas the other two-third would work in the frontlines battling fires.
Currently, Cal Fire has nearly 9,000 employees, and the proposed budget is expected to gain approval of California’s Democratic-Controlled legislature.
