Pharmacist Ben Fuchs fills in for Dr. Wallach.  Ben starts the show discussing the various forms of acne and the causes.  Asserting that their are 7 different types of acne or causes such as adrenal, liver, kidney, thyroid, male hormone, premenstral and menopause.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Ben Fuchs discuss a recent news article.  The article concerns a warning put out by drug manufacturor Wyeth and the FDA.  The warning is to doctors recommending they limit the number of Effexor pill they prescribe to patients.  Warning doctors about possible overdoses as several deaths and injuries have already been reported.

Nurse Joanne Conaway fills in for Dr. Wallach.  Joanne begins the show outlining her medical background.  She also discusses the importance of antioxidants specifically  reveratol found in grape skins and seeds.  Discussing a recent research study that found resveratol actually inhibits cancer cell growth.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Joanne Conaway discuss a couple of news articles concerning vaccines.  Doug outlines a government study that contends vaccines have "almost" no side effects that require medical treatment.  Howvever, nearly half of those who co-wrote the study had financial ties to companies that make vaccines.  Next they discuss the recent FDA rejection of a petition to remove thimerosal from vaccines.  Thimerosal is a preservative that is nearly 50% by weight mercury.

Dr. Wallach discusses a couple of recent news stories.  The first concerns a European study that found heart attack patients given prescription fish oils with omega 3 fatty acids faired better than those not given the fish oil.  Doc also discusses a study that linked the consumption vegatables to a 40% less risk of cognitive decline in those suffering from dementia.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a recent news article concerning the CDC's advisory to hospitlals regarding drug resistant "superbugs".  The CDC  is advising hopitals, nursing homes and long term care facilities to use standard infection control practices and guidelines in the proper use of antibiotics.

Dr. Wallach discusses his theory on Alzheimers and dementia.  Stating that more and more evidence has been found to support the hypothesis that Alzheimer's and dementia are nutritional deficiencies.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a recent news article concerning arthritis. The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) has released a report that 20% of American adults have arthritis.  The survey covered rheumatoid arthritis, gout. lupus and fibromyalgia.  The story also claimed that exercise could help prevent arthritis.

Doug Winfrey and Ben Fuchs discuss a couple of news stories.  The first concerns the Walt Disney Co. and a recent move to lower fat and sugar contents in packaged foods that carry the images of Mickey and friends.  Next Doug and Ben discuss a study done by the National Institute of Mental Health concerning the side effects of Ritalin on children under the age of 6.  The drugs have only been approved for children 6 or older and the study was conducted by researchers with financial ties to the makers of these psychiatric drugs.

Dr. Wallach discusses a recent report regarding the worlds tallest people.  The report states that the Dutch are the tallest people on average in the world.  Previously the U.S. held that ranking until the 1970s when the Dutch started to pass us.  Doc attributes the change to mineral deficiencies in the American people.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a couple of recent news articles.  The first concerns former FDA chairman Lester Crawford who is pleading guilty to conflict of interest and making false financial statements.  While chairing the FDA Crawford wrote that he had sold shares of Pepsico Inc., Sysco Corp. (food product manufacturor) and Embrex Inc. (agriculture biotech company).  In fact he was actually on the board of directors for Embrex.  Doug also discusses another story about a new stomach banding proceedure that will be easier and less expensive.
