Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing exercising properly. Contending that pro athletes don't live as long as the average "couch potato". Asserting this is because athlete sweat out nutrients during their workouts and competition. If they hydrate with only water they as slowly killing themselves by starving their bodies of important nutrients like vitamins and minerals.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article on a request from WHO (World Health Organization) for tougher food marketing rules. They contend that all of the ads for unhealthy foods on television and on the internet through social media contributes to childhood obesity. Doc disagrees asserting that children crave the salty, fatty and sugar laden foods because they are nutritionally starved.

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing his latest book "The Death of the Epigenetic Theory". The book outlines how early in man's history people thought disease was caused by evil spirits. Later they thought the Gods were displeased then once bacteria was discovered that was the cause. Once viruses were found all disease was were caused by these. After genetics were discovered that was the cause and Doc's book dispells that theory.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article concerning on common health ailments that might signal bigger problems. Things such as nose bleeds could possilbly mean high blood pressure. Aching joints could signal osteoporosis while unexlplained pimples could be a sign of basal cell carcinoma.

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing human longevity. Asserting that humans have the genetic ability to live to be at least 140 years possibly more. Outlining how he has studied cultures that traditionally live longer than Americans. Citing several of the common threads these peoples share such as no health insurance or medical doctors.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss several news stories involving doctors who are in trouble for medical mistakes and lax medical hygiene. The first story concerns a cosmetic surgeon who had a patient die of a lung embolism. Another cosmetic surgeon cut a patient's nose completely off because an alledged infection then refuse the patient further treatment. Finally an article concern the UK's Health Department recommending in 2007 that doctors not wear ties. Resulting in some doctors shedding their white coats and dressing so causually as to appear "scruffy".

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing peripheral neuropathies. Outlining several disease states that occur when nerves are pinched due to degenerative disk diseases. Contending these can all be reversed through nutritional deficiencies. Asserting the MD treatments often resulted in more harm to patients.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article regarding a study of RLS (restless leg syndrome). The study found that men with RLS 40% more likely to die from major chronic conditions during the eight year study than those without RLS. Researchers contending this is an association not a cause and effect link. Uncertain why RLS might increase the mortality risk. Doc asserts RLS is caused by nutritional deficiencies just like all of the other chronic diseases.

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing a news article about how the medical system is set to start treating what they believe are impending epidemics among the "baby boomers". Doc asserts that the human body has 72 joints and that orthopedic surgeons are set to try and replace them all.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a study presented at the World Congress on Osteoarthritis. The study found that a blend of herb extracts performed better than the generic version of Celebrex at pain managment. The product contained an extract of turmeric combined with an extract of boswellia. Both have long used used as a traditional treatment of arthritis pain.

Dr. Wallach starts the show introducing his new "side-kick" Char Murphy. Doc and Char discuss a few cases of people who had been told by their medical doctor "we just can't do anything" to help. Like a man who was in a wheel chair due to ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) who is now walking unaided.  Or another man who was on a heart transplant list and has now been taken off that list.

 

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article concerning a study of the hand washing practices of the general public. The study found that only about 5% of people wash their hands properly.  According to the CDC a proper hand wash should take 15 to 20 seconds with soap and vigorous scrubbing. The study also found that women were better at it than men and only two of every three actually uses soap. CDC also says that 50% of all food caused illness is due to improper hand washing.

Contending the drugs they use all have side effects and except antibiotics none cures anything. Asserting that many diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis that MDs say are "incurable" can in fact be completely reversed.

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing disaster preparedness. Then he moves on to discuss drugs that have killed people or harmed them and all were approved by the FDA. Outlining how some of these drugs were never pulled off the market by the FDA. But were pulled from the market by the manufacturers because of pending lawsuits for damages caused by the drugs.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article regarding a study on non-steroidal anti-inflammatory durgs or NSAIDs. The study of over 300,000 patients found that people taking high doses for long periods of time were more likely to have a major vascular event. In fact these patients were one third more likley to have a heart attack, stroke or die from cardiovascular disease.

Dr. Peter Glidden fills in for Dr. Wallach today starting the show discussing heart burn and acid reflux. Explaining that medications to treat these are the biggest selling drugs in America. Asserting that heart burn is not caused by too much stomach acid but not strong enough. Allowing yeast to grow causing gas, belching and bloating.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Glidden discuss a news article regarding a study of patients on statin drugs. A study of over 14,000 patients found those taking statins were 10% more likely to have muscle pain, strains and sprains than those not on the drug. Dr. Glidden asserts that statins don't work to prevent heart disease.
