Dr. Wallach discusses the Avian flu citing a news story concerning wild swans found in the Great Lakes region that were infected.  Recommending his H5N1Bird Flu CD as a good resource for learning about this impending pandemic.  Also correlating the 1918 Spanish flu that killed 500,000 in this country and millions world wide.  Asserting that is imperative people prepare themselves with extra food, water, medical supplies etc.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news story regarding a man 100 years old that attributes his longevity to taking daily cold showers.  The article also outlines how someone born in 1900 would have expected to live to be 47.3 years old and someone born in 2002 can expect to live to be 77.3 years old.  An expert on gerontology attributes the increased longevity to declines in infant mortality, improvements in public health, vaccines, prevention of killer diseases and a clean water supply.  Doc disagrees citing statistics regarding infant mortality as well as the amounts of people killed, maimed and injured by the medical industry each year.

Dr. Wallach discusses weight loss contending the root cause of weight gain is nutritional deficiencies.  Asserting that many Americans gain weight because they eat based off of their cravings.  Comparing cravings to "pica and cribbing" in found in animals that are minerally deficient.  Doc recommends using the Youngevity "Nature's Whey" and "Slender FX" as great tools to assist in weight loss.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article concerning "off-labelling".  The practice of "off-labeling" is when doctors write prescriptions for drugs to be used for things other than what the FDA approved the drug.  In this article experts contend that more and more doctors are prescribing depression and hyperactivity drugs for people trying to lose weight.

Dr. Wallach discusses a news article regarding new therapies for damaged knees.  Researchers are experimenting with using "cartilage plugs" to help rebuild knee joints.  Doc asserts that the technology of how to rebuild joints already exists.  Contending that if you give the body right nutrients and building blocks the body can rebuild joints and ligaments.

Dr. Wallach discusses a news article concerning a recently court ruling.  A federal judge has ruled that the Vermont 16 year old that was refusing a second round of chemo-therapy can use alternative therapies instead.  A lower court had found the parents negligent and ruled to force the teen to take the chemo-therapy.  Dr. Wallach asserts that this is an important ruling in fight for freedom of choice.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a couple of recent news articles the first concerning a recent court ruling involving drug giant Merck & Co.  Merck recently lost a federal case over the drug Vioxx and the jury awarded the plaintiff $50 million in damages.  The second article concerns a recent report from the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) that found 59% of all skin infections in U.S. emergency rooms are caused by MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureaus).  A bacteria known as a "super bug" because of it's resistance to antibiotics.

Pharmacist Ben Fuchs fills in for Dr. Wallach.  Ben discusses the various causes of migraine headaches.  Asserting that most are experienced by women (18%) compared to men (6%).  Explaining that foods and food additives are usually the main cause for migraines.

Doug Winfrey and Ben Fuchs continue discussing migraines.  They also discuss a recent warning from the FDA (Food and Drug Adiministration) telling people to avoid eating raw shellfish.  As many as 200 reported cases of gastroenteritis have been linked to eating raw shellfish in recent months.

Dr. Wallach discusses a news story concerning the H5N1 bird flu.  Officials are saying they have found two wild swans in the great lakes that may have the avian flu.  Dr. Wallach recommends people getting his "God Bless America" book that outlines various defenses against bio-terrorism and pandemics.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a recent news story regarding ADHD.  A recent study done at the Washington University School of Medicine, in St. Louis, Missouri found many children aren't getting ADHD medications.  The study reports that out of 1610 Missouri twins in the study 359 met the criteria for ADHD.  With 59% of the boys and 46% of girls with ADHD getting medications.  However, the study also revealed that 65% of those actually already on ADHD medication met the full criteria for ADHD.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a couple of recent news articles.  The first concerns a report done by the Harvard School of Public Health that links weight gain to the sugars found in most popular drinks.  Researchers believe that just one extra soda a day can add as much as 15 pounds a year.  The next article concerns a recent move by Indian officials to ban Coke and Pepsi products from India due to high levels of pesticides in the products.
