A COUNTY-WIDE BAN ON PLASTIC BAGS, THAT WAS APPROVED LAST YEAR, AND IS SCHEDULED TO GO INTO EFFECT NEXT MONTH, WAS MODIFIED TODAY. BASED ON TODAY’S MODIFICATIONS, RESTAURANTS WILL NOW BE EXEMPT FROM THE BAG BAN, WHICH IS SLATED TO GO INTO EFFECT MARCH 20TH. THE CATALYST FOR TODAY’S DECISION IS A LAWSUIT FILED BY THE SAN FRANCISCO-BASED SAVE THE PLASTIC BAG COALITION, WHICH HAS FILED SUIT AGAINST SANTA CRUZ AND OTHER COUNTIES.
