THE STATE WATER RESOURCES CONTROL BOARD WILL BE ADMINISTERING A 750-THOUSAND DOLLAR FEDERAL GRANT. THE GRANT IS TO BE USED TO RID PINTO LAKE OF THE TOXIC BLUE GREEN ALGAE BLOOM KNOWN AS CYANOBACTERIA. 1ST A 12-THOUSAND DOLLAR GRANT WILL BE USED TO ELECTRO-FISH THE CARP FROM THE LAKE. CARP STIR UP SEDIMENT LADEN WITH FERTILIZER RUN-OFF WHICH FEEDS THE ALGAE. IN JUNE OF 2015 THE FEDERAL MONIES WILL BE USE TO FORM A CHEMICAL BARRIER OVER THE SEDIMENT TO CONTROL THE CYANOBACTERIA, WHICH WHEN UNCONTROLLED MAKES ITS WAY TO THE SEA AND IS LINKED TO SEA OTTER POISONINGS.
