In one of the largest financial penalties ever levied against an American utility, P.G.&E. now faces a nearly $2 billion fine. That’s for the company’s role in several Northern California fires, that took place in 2017 and 2018. The state Public Utilities Commission levied the $1.97 billion fine today.
