Although some residents of the Asilomar Dunes neighborhood say it will impinge on their property rights, the Pacific Grove City Council Has Ok’d A New Local Coastal Program (that the city worked on with the California Coastal Commission). This week’s approval means that the city will be able to make most ‘land-use permitting’ decisions within the Coastal Zone….which runs the length of pacific grove’s oceanfront, including the Asilomar Dunes Neighborhood. Residents there say one of the conditions they are most concerned about is a height restriction….that could require homeowners there to remove some or all of their second stories. The same restriction would prevent homeowners there from re-building after a natural disaster…or replacing damaged sections of their residence.
