A petition in Pacific Grove has gained enough signatures to vote on the issue of opening cannabis shops in the area.
Over 1,100 signatures were submitted to Pacific Grove city hall last week.
The petition was launched after citizens felt their voices of concern were ignored and a lack of transparency during the initial vote in September on issuing permits for cannabis dispensaries within the city.
Concerns include being closely located near youth centers or parks, strong opposition from the Pacific Grove Unified School District, and a strong desire to put the issue on the ballot for citizens instead of a vote by councilmembers.
Meanwhile, supporters would like the money spent elsewhere on cannabis products to remain local and benefit the city itself.
