The state public utilities commission is fining P-G and E just over two billion dollars for igniting a series of deadly wildfires.
Initially the troubled utility was slapped with a one billion dollar fine… but several consumer groups complained that fine wasn’t large enough and upon further review the p-u-c decided to increase the punishment.
The increased fine includes a $200 million payment that will be earmarked for people who lost family members, homes and businesses in wildfires caused by pg&e’s electrical grid. In 2017 and 2018 130 were killed and 28-thousand homes and buildings were destroyed by wildfire.
