a beached panga-style boat was found on saturday. the 36 foot open boat, fitted with two, 2-hundred horsepower outboards, was found by state parks lifeguards. the boat was spotted early saturday morning on garrapata state beach just south of carmel. a 35 pound bale of pot was found close by, panga boats are known to be associated with smugglers. the incident was turned over to the monterey county sheriff’s department and homeland security.
