owl release 10/03/11 11a.m. TDH

A fundraiser event was held over the weekend for the monterey county society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.   The highlight of the spca for monterey county’s 18th wild celebration, was the release of a great-horned owl.  The owl was nursed to recovery, after falling out of a nest near river road, in salinas.   Bidders put up donation offers, to win a chance to free the owl from its cage.   That honor went to salinas resident abigail tiscornia, who donated 7-thousand dollars to the agency.     The release was a success, with the owl flying from its cage, to the open wilderness.
