Out of State Egg Producers File for Appeal of California Law- 3/09/15 10:00 S.G.

State officials have filed for an appeal of a federal ruling on California’s egg importation law. AB1437, which was approved following the passing of Proposition 2 in 2008, regulates the size of housing for egg-laying hens.  Producers outside the state must also follow the law in order to sell eggs in California. An appellant’s brief in opposition to the legislation has been field by egg-producing states, including Oklahoma, Alabama, and Kentucky. A number of individuals and organizations in agriculture have submitted complaints about how the law drives up egg prices and puts a burden on interstate commerce.
