The city of Monterey has a program designed to help local senior citizens feel more connected with their community. Many seniors who live alone used to gather at senior centers to socialize, and with those centers shut down, the seniors are more alone than ever before. Because of that, shortly after the local shelter-in-place was issued on March 16th, Operation Outreach was created. Ever since then a cadre of people have regularly called Monterey area shut-ins to find out what specific needs they have, and then those people have worked to make sure to connect those seniors with agencies (such as the Alliance On Aging, Monterey County Social Services, The Gathering For Women, Meals On Wheels, and The United Way’s 2-1-1 Program), that can assist them.
