A salinas police officer shot a pit bull on saturday, after responding to reports that the dog was loose and terrorizing the neighborhood. A 2nd pit bull was not located after the shooting, which took place near central park. Neighbors in the area of Villa street called police after the dogs were seen running around without restraint. The officer was looking for the dogs on foot, when 1 of them began chasing him, forcing the officer to shoot. The dog was treated and later euthanized by animal control. The other dog was not immediately located. No people were reported injured in the 7:26 a.m. incident.
