October 24, 2015: FEMA Officials Urge Flood Insurance

(16:15) WASHINGTON D.C. – FEMA officials are urging Californians to obtain flood insurance. The announcement was made Friday at the same time the NOAA was updating the public on what the agency says is now a 95 percent chance of strong El Nino storms before spring. California will be susceptible to flooding because of the soil conditions brought on by the ongoing drought and recent wildfires. FEMA estimates 50 to 70 percent of homeowners in at risk areas don’t have flood insurance and should obtain it as soon as possible. It can take up to 30 days for a policy to take effect once purchased.
