(22:54) WATSONVILLE – A Celebration honoring Watsonville Police Chief Manny Solano was held today. After 30 years in law enforcement (with the last 6 as Chief of Police for Watsonville), Chief Solano plans to retire next month. Although the cancer, that put him out of commission for a short time in 2014 is still in remission, Chief Solano says a service-related injury has limited his capacity to do his job the way he would like. That’s why he now plans to retire in December, instead of staying on the job for another 4 or 5 years (as he had originally planned). After retiring from the Police Force, Solano plans to become an instructor at the South Bay Regional Police Academy.
