(17:57)- SALINAS- Monterey County will soon utilize a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety to implement a pilot program focusing on repeat DUI offenders. The 350,000 dollar grant will team the DA’s office, with the probation department, and will be administered by Superior Court. The program, which has reduced recidivism by 50 percent in other counties, will offer alcohol treatment programs to individuals who fit certain criteria. Participants would still have to serve state mandated minimum sentences. The program will not be offered to those involved in injury accidents or charged with felonies.
