Non-profit organizations can take control of operations at state parks, after governor brown signed a bill tuesday, authorizing the action. the 70 parks, however, are not planned for closure until next summer. That could leave time for lawmakers to reverse their closure. Among the parks slated for closure is the santa cruz mission state historical park. The new law will allow the group “Friends of santa cruz state Parks” to keep that, and other parks running, (through fundraising efforts.) Santa cruz county is home to 13 state parks, including the state’s first: big basin redwoods state park. Big Basin is one of the parks scheduled to lose state funding.
