Army officials at the former Fort Ord called Tuesday’s controlled burn the last one of the year. After a mandatory cool down period, the army will now proceed with detonating and removing unexploded munitions and explosives left over from the days when Fort Ord was an active military base. The Army says Monday’s burn was a success while Tuesday’s burn caused some concern for a nearby school and homeowners when it went over the containment line. The Army reportedly still has 3,000 acres left to burn on the site. The entire project is slated to be completed in 8-to-10-years.
