No Watsonville firefighters will be laid off this year, after an agreement was reached between the firefighters’ union and city leaders. The agreement on a new contract was announced at the start of the Watsonville city council meeting Tuesday. 4-layoff notices for firefighters had been scheduled to be issued at the meeting, however the agreement will prevent the layoffs. Watsonville faces a budget deficit of 1-point-9 million dollars.
