An investigation into a stolen firearm has determined that the weapon, (owned by a former family member of a salinas city council member), is illegal in California. City councilwoman Gloria de la rosa reported the assault rifle stolen last month. The weapon remains missing, however in the course of the investigation, it was determined that the weapon, an ak-47, sks-variant assault rifle), is not permitted in California. De la rosa reported that the gun was bought in Arizona, and was owned by her late son-in-law. The monterey county district attorney is so far not pursuing charges against de la rosa, because the weapon has not been recovered. If it is found, charges could be filed.
