The long-sought effort to add fluoride to watsonville’s water supply has reached a conclusion…at least for now. The California dental association foundation, known as the C-D-A-F, has withdrawn its offer to fund the fluoridation project. that means that fluoride will not be added to Watsonville’s water any time soon. State law requires municipalities to fluoridate their water, if a funding source is available. After the city received bids for the work that exceeded the funding available, the C-D-A-F pulled the plug on the effort. The development is likely to please many in the city (including city leaders), who had resisted fluoridation. However, because of the state law, if another funding source becomes available in the future, the effort could be revived.
