The monterey county district attorney has decided not to file charges against the monterey county sheriff’s department, (or sheriff’s deputies), in connection with the death of a man during a raid in Greenfield. Rogelio serrato died due to smoke inhalation, after the residence he was hiding in was raided by deputies equipped with flash grenades. Authorities had been searching for another man, (not serrato), however it is unknown why he did not come out of the house when ordered. The district attorney’s review concluded no criminal charges should be filed, (although serrato’s family could still pursue a civil case).
