Highway 101 Delays 02.22.2021 0720 5 JS

A collision involving a car versus a power pole is continuing to cause major delays this (Monday) morning.

The collision occurred Sunday evening after 5 PM and initially closed Highway 101 up to the Highway 25 interchange.

A single lane is closed while crews work to restore the utility pole in that area. Delays have ballooned to over two hours as a result of this lane closure, and motorists are strongly encouraged to seek alternate routes.

Sunday Morning Crash 02.22.2021 0700 4 JS

A crash involving two cars around 1 AM on Sunday killed one person.

The incident occurred in Watsonville at Highway 1 and Airport Boulevard.

The cause of collision remains under investigation, and anyone with information on this Sunday morning crash is encouraged to contact California Highway Patrol.

Gilroy Quake 02.22.2021 0640 3 JS

A Magnitude 3.8 earthquake took place shortly after 5:30 PM on Sunday.

The epicenter is 5 miles northeast of Gilroy, 7 miles southeast of San Martin.

No injuries or reports of damage were reported, and the earthquake was felt by residents of Rio Del Mar and the San Lorenzo Valley.

SLV Return To School 02.22.2021 0620 2 JS

San Lorenzo Valley Unified has announced a plan for returning students to campus.

The plans were announced on Saturday to students, faculty, and staff.

Starting with Pre-K, Kindergarten, and elementary special needs students, they will return March 16.

First and second graders will return March 30th, with third through fifth graders on April 13th.

Parents will have the option of having their students stay online through mixed in-person and online teaching, or remain with online learning if they choose to do so.

Moss Landing Water Rescue Paused 02.22.2021 0530 1 JS

The search for a man swept out to sea at Moss Landing State Beach has been paused.

The call for rescue took place after 4:30 in the afternoon Sunday following a bystander rescuing a child and their uncle stuck in the ocean. 

The 32-year-old uncle was swept to sea.

Starting today (Monday), the search will continue with dive teams, a helicopter and Coast Guard
