8th Salinas Ag Tech Summit 02-24-21 07:26 S.S.

The  8th  Annual  Salinas  Ag  Tech  Summit  is  slated  to  be  held  virtually  the  middle  of  next  month.   The  march  18th  and  19th  event  will  cover  policiesbest  practices,  and  developing  technologies  that  are  coming  on-line.    By  the  middle  of  this  century,  the  world  will need  to  double  its  agricultural  production  without  causing  massive  and  irreversible  damage  to  the  environment.   Due  to the  excess  nitrogen from  fertilizers,   places  such  as  the  Elkhorn slough  are  battling  algae  blooms  created  by  the  increased  nitrogen  making  its  way downstream.

 

This  year’s  zoom  format  means  that  people  can  participate  from  anywhere  in  the  world.    Attendance  is  free,  and  people  can  sign-up  people  on-line  at:

79 ACTIVE CASES

40 HOSPITALIZED, 8 IN ICU

323 HAVE DIED.

ALTHOUGH THE CASE POSITIVITY RATE IS BELOW WHAT IS NEEDED TO MOVE UP TO THE  RED TIER,  THE  ADJUSTED  CASE  RATE  IS  STILL TOO HIGH TO DO SO. 

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY:

495 ACTIVE CASES

18 HOSPITALIZED, 2 IN THE ICU

174 PEOPLE HAVE DIED

ALTHOUGH THE CASE POSITIVITY RATE IS WELL BELOW WHAT IS NEEDED TO MOVE UP TO THE  RED TIER,  THE  ADJUSTED  CASE  RATE  IS  STILL  A  BIT  TOO  HIGH  TO  DO  SO.

A  new  affordable  housing  advocacy  group  has  been  formed  in  Santa  Cruz  county.     As  its  mission,  “Housing  Santa  Cruz  County”  is  working  to  ensure  access  to  safe,  stable, affordable  housing  for all  community  members in  Santa  Cruz county.   H.S.C.C.  plans  to  host  a  virtual  kick-off  event  this  Thursday  from  4-5 p.m.

Feb 13th Shooting Victim Dies 02-23-21 17:54 S.S.

A  46  year-old  man,  who  was  shot  in  the  early  morning  hours  of  Saturday  February  13th,  has  succumbed  to  his  injuries.   The  shooting  took  place  shortly  after  midnight  at  the  end  of  Walker  Street....on  the  Pajaro  River  Levee  in Watsonville.   Anyone  with  information  about  that  shooting  is  encouraged  to  contact  the  Watsonville  Police  Department.

Back In Class Today 02-23-21 17:43 S.S.

Some  students  with  un-reliable  internet  were  back  in  their  classrooms  in  Salinas  today.....for  their  first  day  of  in-person  learning  this  year.    The  district  requires  temperature  checks  when  the  students  arrive  on  campus.    Plexiglass  barriers  have  been  installed  in  classrooms  and  other  areas  around  campus.   The  cohort  plan  is  in  place  in  the  Salinas  Union  High  School  District.
