Playgrounds in the city of Monterey have already re-opened (except for Dennis-The-Menace Park), and the playgrounds in Salinas are now scheduled to re-open on Monday. The re-openings are due to the Covid-19 case rates dropping in the area. People are still asked to follow the posted Covid-19 guidance of practicing social distancing, wearing face coverings, washing/sanitizing hands before and after using the equipment there....and limiting the number of people on the playground at one time. Large gatherings are still not allowed, and to that end picnic tables and group barbecue areas will remain closed.

People who are still feeding the wild birds are asked to stop doing so....at least until the end of this month. That's because Pine Siskins (who have been wintering here), and other small songbirds, are getting sick and dying from Salmonellosis....which oftens spreads when birds congregate at bird feeders, because birds shed the bacteria in their feces (which lands on the feeder, and on the seed and ground below the feeders).
Because of that people are asked to remove and clean their wild bird feeders, and put them away until the Pine Siskins continue their migration by leaving the area. People are also encouraged to report sick or dying birds to the S.P.C.A.
