SC Beach Boardwalk 03-16-21 17:00 S.S.

Later  this month  the  Santa  Cruz  Beach  Boardwalk  plans  to  hold  their  first  ‘open  air  market’  since  the  pandemic  began  a  year  ago.   30  local  artisans  and  businesses  are  expected  have  booths  there,  and  people  are  encouraged  to  support  those  vendors.    Face  coverings  will  be  required  for  the  11  a.m.  to  5  p.m.  March  27th  event.

IRS Delays Deadline 03-16-21 15:30 S.S.

The  Internal  Revenue  Service  has  delayed  the  deadline  for  people  to  file  their  federal  income  taxes  this  year......as  they  did  last  year....although  this  year  it’s  only  been  delayed  until  may  17th.     The  federal  tax  agency  said  that  some  people  (who  filed  early)  may  need  to  file  an  amendment.    There  have  been  some  new  tax  rule s issued  in  part  because  of  the  multiple  stimulus  checks.   More  details  are  expected  to  be  released  in  the  coming  days.

3 People Sentenced 03-17-21 13:00 S.S.

3  people  have   been  sentenced  in  connection  with  an  April  2020  gang-related  shooting  in  Salinas.      The  April  20th  shooting  took  place  on  the  100  block  of  Orchard  Street.      22  year-old  Joshua  Garcia  and  23  year-old  Jesus  Lopez  were   each  sentenced  to  spend  18  years  in  prison,  for  attempted  murder  and  gang  and  gun  enhancements;  while  24  year-old  Cynthia  Edeza  pleaded  guilty to  aiding  and  abetting,   and  received  a  sentence  of  7  years  in  prison.  

1  of  their  intended  targets  was  not  shot,   while  the  other  is  still  recovering  from  that  shooting.

New K-9 Officer in Soledad 03-17-21 12:49 S.S.

A  Black  Labrador  K-9  officer  has  been  added  to  the  ranks  of  the  Soledad  Police  Department.  “Bo”  is  1-and-a=quarter years-old and has been trained  as   a  narcotics  canine.     Bo’s  handler,  Officer  Cecilio  Lozano,  said  that  the  superfriendly  dog  will  also  be  a  Goodwill  Ambassador  for  the  Department.

John Smith Road Landfill 03-17-21 12:28 S.S.

A  major  expansion  is  being worked  on  for  the  John  Smith  Road  Landfill  in  eastern  San  Benito  county.      The  expansion  is  slated  to  allow   for  more  than  doubling  the  current  daily  intake  of  garbage.       The  next  step  would  be  to  undertake  an  environmental  study.
