Wville Cannabis Tax Rate Cut 03-24-21 07:30 S.S.

Watsonville  city  council  members  have  voted  5-2  to  cut  the  tax  rate  of  cannabis  nurseries,  cultivators  and  storefronts.   The  tax  cut  puts  Watsonville  businesses  on  par  with  most  adjacent  municipalities.    Although  there  are  a  number  of  growers  in  Watsonville,  the  city  still  doesn’t  have  a  legal  marijuana  dispensary.

Ground Broken In Holl 03-24-21 06:25 S.S.

The  ground  has  now  been  broken  on   an  Amazon  distribution  facility  in  Hollister.    The  location  of  that  facility  is  at  the  corner  of  Flynn  and  San  Felipe  Roads.....which  is  south  of the  Hollister  Municipal  Airport.    They  expect  to  have  the  distribution  center  operational  by the  end  of  the  summer  and  then  they  expect  to  need  to  hire  hundreds  of  full-time  and  part-time  workers.    They  have  a  national  starting  wage  of  15  dollars  per  hour.

CA State Prisons 03-24-21 06:18 S.S.

Starting  April  10th,  people   will  be  able  to  (on  a  limited  basis)  visit  prison  inmates  once  again.    The  top  officials  at  each  prison  will  decide  if  the  entire  facility,  or  just  portions thereof,  will  allow  visitors....with  visiting  times  varying  depending  on  the  number  of  active  cases  of  Covid-19.     Precautions  at  each  prison  will  include  temperature  checks,  symptom  screenings,  coronavirus  testing,  physical  distancing,  facial  coverings,  and  limits  on  both  the  numbers  of  visitors  and how long  they  can  stay.

Sal Homeless Fire 03-24-21 06:10 S.S.

No  one  was  injured  as  the  result of  a  fire  that  broke  out  in  a  homeless  encampment  in  Salinas  last  night.   About  50  by  50  feet  burned due  to  the  vegetation  fire  that  took  place  along  the  southbound  lanes  of  Highway  101  under  the  Main  Street  overpass.

Gull Released Into Wild 03-23-21 18:06 S.S.

A  recently  rescued  gull  was  released  back  into  the  wild  yesterday.   The  gull  was  found  with  multiple  fishhooks  in  his  face,  beak,  and  wing.....when  he  was  seen  in  the  yard  of  a  seaside  home  earlier  this  month.      The  gull  was  cared  for,  and  rehabbed  by,  the  S.P.C.A.  Monterey  County  Wildlife  And  Rehabilitation  Center.    The  hooks  made  it  impossible  for  him  to  eat  or  drink.    After  some  treatment  they  were  able  to  sedate  him  and  remove  the  hooks,  and  then  they  needed  to  rehab  him.   He  was  released  back  into  the  wild  at  Seaside  State  Beach
