Tuesday Night Shooting 03-24-21 16:40 S.S.

A  fatal  shooting,  that occurred in Salinas last night,  is still being investigated.   A 23 year-old man suffered several  gunshot  wounds  in  the  10 p.m.  shooting,  that  took  place  on  the  800 block  of  East Laurel Drive.  Anyone with information about last night’s shooting is encouraged to contact  the Salinas Police Department.

2 Arr In Soledad 03-24-21 16:24 S.S.

2  people  have  been  arrested in connection with a shooting that took place in Salinas.  The 25 and 40 year-old suspects were arrested in Soledad yesterday, after a video of the shooting was used to identify  them.    The 2 were booked into Monterey County Jail.

SC County-Run Public Defenders Transition Plan 03-24-21 11:31 S.S.

A  transition  plan  has  been  approved  that  would  create  a  county-run  public defender’s  office.  The  firm  that  has  been  providing  indigent defense  services  to  Santa Cruz  county  since  1975  will  have  the  right of  first opportunity  at  employment  in  the  new  office,  and  as  such  the  attorneys  there  are  expected  to receive  job  offers  by  September.   The attorney  who  runs  Biggam, Christensen,  and  Minsloff has also asked that his administrative staff and investigators be included in those hiring decisions by the county.

Green Valley Road – Daily Closures 03-24-21 11:10 S.S.

Starting today,  and  running  through  April  14th,  there  is  scheduled  to  be  roadwork  on  Green  Valley  Road  in  Watsonville.    The  daytime  roadwork,  between  Celia Drive and Paulsen Road,  is  slated  to  be  done  between  8:30  a-m  and  4:30  p-m  Monday  through  Friday  each  week.  Detours  are slated  to  be  in  place  at  Amesti  Road for northbound travelers,  and  at  Pioneer for those who are headed southbound.  Those trying to travel east on Varni Road to Amesti are also expected to be  detoured while this work is taking place.  Delays  in  the  area  can  be  expected.
