Marina Burglaries 04.01.2021 0650 5 JS

Several burglaries in the Sea Haven area have been reported by Marina Police. High-value bicycles, contents of two vehicles were stolen all in the same neighborhood.

As a result, Marina Police is asking for assistance in obtaining video footage of any suspicious activity or persons in the area on the evenings of March 26, 28, and the 31st.

Most of these burglaries took place while the residents were at home.

Officials with Marina PD are also asking the community to take safety and security precautions to prevent any further incidents.

Anyone with information regarding this string of burglaries is encouraged to contact Detective Rachel Maldonado at the Marina Police Department.

Hate Crime Graffiti 04.01.2021 0630 4 JS

On Tuesday night, a neighbor discovered racial slurs and hate-based graffiti on the sidewalk near a building on the 200 block of Swift Street.

A police report was filed and the graffiti was immediately removed.

This is the first report of graffiti depicting racist and offensive ter ms or symbols in the city of Santa Cruz for 2021.

Santa Cruz Police report that there is no suspect information and that the vandalism is under investigation but provided no details as to what the graffiti consisted of. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Santa Cruz Police.

Laguna Raceway Graduations 04.01.2021 0610 3 JS

Monterey Peninsula Unified School District graduates will be returning to the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna. The following dates have been set for graduations:

  • Marina High School, Seaside High Central Coast High, Monterey Adult School and Monterey High will start at 9 AM on June 1st
  • Pacific Grove High will have their graduation ceremony on June 2nd at 6 PM.

Meanwhile, Carmel High has yet to set a date as their principal is still review ing updated health and safety guidelines and Salinas Union High School is still reviewing their options for a ceremony.

These graduations will be held similar to last year’s celebrations in a drive-in fashion, and graduates will be able to do a slow lap around the racetrack.

Fossil Fire 04.01.2021 0550 2 JS

Thanks to the quick response of Cal Fire and local firefighting efforts, the Fossil fire was quickly stopped.

The Fossil Fire started before 5 PM on Wednesday in the area of Greenvale Road and Highway 9 near Redwood Elementary.

While timber was discover ed burning, no structures were threatened, and an airstrike team kept the fire between 3 to 5 acres when it was burning.

The cause of fire is under investigation and was found burning outside of the CZU Lightning Complex burn scar.

Hollister Woman Arrested 04.01.2021 0530 1 JS

A woman who had two outstanding warrants was arrested after climbing a railroad crossing and staying up top for over four hours.

49-year-old Ana Parra was found at the intersection of First Street at San Benito Street around 4 PM on Sunday. Hollister Police closed the street as a safety measure until she came down.

She was cited for trespassing on railroad property, and her arrest warrants were for smuggling drugs into jail and failure to appear at a court hearing.
