Worsening Vaccine Shortage Ahead 04-02-21 07:15 DC

More Californians became eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine yesterday (Thursday) as California expanded eligibility to 6-million people aged 50 and older.

What is known for sure is that vaccine supply will still not meet demand. And getting a vaccine will become even more difficult in two weeks when eligibility expands again to everyone 16 and older.

Santa Cruz County Public Health Officer Dr. Gail Newel is recommending that those aged 50 or older their very best to get the vaccine before it becomes eligible to everyone in two weeks. That’s when the gap between supply and demand will reall y exceed the supply," Dr. Newel said.

Newel advised the best time to look for an appointment may be early in the morning. She said the county is expecting its vaccine supply to double by April 20. But supply won't fully meet demand until June 1 when vaccine supply is expected to triple.
