Arrest in Hollister 04.05.2021 0630 3 JS

On Sunday, Hollister Police officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Primavera Drive after receiving a report that two men were fighting with one wielding a sword around 11 AM.

Upon discovering one of the suspects in the area of Maple Street and North Sall y Street, the suspect was found armed with a machete and was wearing heavy motorcycle armor clothing. When the suspect approached an officer, less-lethal bean bag rounds were deployed following use of a taser to subdue him.

The suspect had minor injuries that were treated at Hazel Hawkins Hospital and was placed on a 72-hour mental health evaluation hold.

Bridge Fire 04.05.2021 0600 2 JS

San Juan-Hollister Road was closed Friday morning. That after a fire was reported under the bridge, Hollister Police responded to Graf Road shortly after 3:30 AM.

The fire could be seen around the river bed and underneath the bridge.

Hollister Fire Department responded and fought the fire that engulfed several encampments nearby.

Following an inspection by Caltrans, the bridge was reopened shortly thereafter .

Camp Roberts 04.05.2021 0540 1 JS

On Friday, The Pentagon approved the use of an army national guard base in Monterey County in order to house unaccompanied migrant children.

The decision to use Camp Roberts for such a need hasn’t been finalized as the U.S Department of Health and Human Services has the final say in this matter.

Using Camp Roberts to house these children will all eviate strain on the temporary shelters currently beyond capacity and will allow H-H-S to process the unaccompanied minors before releasing them to a sponsor.

People aged 55 and older, the severely disabled, and victims of wildfires and Governor-proclaimed natural disasters, will now be able to transfer the taxable value of their original residences....to a replacement residence (anywhere in the state) up to 3 times in their lifetime. That’s according to an announcement by the California State Board Of Equalization this past week, which was based on Proposition 19, that voters approved last November.

NSHS Coach Sentenced Friday 04-03-21 16:59 S.S.

A former North Salinas High School coach has been sentenced to more than 28 years behind bars. That after John Fickas pleaded No Contest to drugging and sexually assaulting 2 students, 1 former student, and a married woma n between 2009 and 2015.

Fickas was also sentenced to spend 2 years in prison for a felony count of animal cruelty because he failed to provide adequate care for his more than 40 rabbits.
