FOUSEK PLEADS NOT GUILTY 08-16-10 08:00 a.v.

A man who was accused of trying to sell his baby in front of a Salinas Walmart store in June, pleaded not-guilty to resisting arrest on Friday. 38-year old Patrick Fousek was taken into custody on august 4th for violating parole and resisting arrest. Fousek and girlfriend, 20-year old Samantha Tomasini, have been charged with child endangerment, and being under the influence of methamphetamine after trying to sell their child for $25 outside of the Westridge Walmart. Both Fousek and Tomasini pleaded not guilty to the charges, and are slated to return to court later this month.

BIG SUR CLIFF RESCUE 08-16-10 07:00 a.v.

3 people were rescued off a cliff in Big Sur Friday night. Monterey County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue received a call at 9:30 p.m. and responded to find 3 people stuck at the bottom of a cliff at Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park. Investigators say a 22-year old Texas man led a 16-year old girl and a 13-year old boy into an area that’s off-limits to the public. The 3 were not able to climb back up and were rescued, no injuries were reported. Officials say they will most likely be cited for trespassing.

NEW S.C. JUDGE BEGINS WORK TODAY 08-16-10 06:00 a.v.

One of 2 new judges, assigned to the Santa Cruz County Superior Courthouse, begins his first day of work today. Judge-elect, John Gallagher will be sworn in before taking the bench at 8:30 a.m. in one of the misdemeanor courtrooms inside Department 2. Both Gallagher and Rebecca Connolly were elected to judgeships in June, and will replace retiring judges Michael Barton and Robert Atack. Connolly is expected to take the bench on September 1st in Department 1, also a misdemeanor courtroom.

K.C. DOM. VIOLENCE ARREST 08-16-10 05:50 a.v.

A King City man was arrested over the weekend after Monterey County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a domestic violence report. 57-year old Christopher Dutra was seen by witnesses pulling a woman’s hair, punching her and then dragging her inside a residence on the 45-thousand block of Merritt Street shortly before 6 p.m. Saturday night. Dutra suffered cuts to his head after he reportedly became aggressive when officers entered the home. He was subdued and taken to Mee Memorial Hospital prior to being booked into Monterey County Jail.

NO. MCO COUNTY FIRE 08-16-10 05:40 a.v.

A 5-acre fire that burned in North Monterey County yesterday afternoon remains under investigation. The blaze broke out at 4:30 p.m. near the intersection of Dunbarton Road and 101, near the Aromas and Prunedale areas. 55 firefighters, 6-engines, a helicopter, 2-air-tankers, and a bulldozer responded to the fire, which was contained an hour later at 5:30 p.m. No structures were damaged and no injuries were reported.
