Repair work begins today for the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Outer Bay Exhibit. The exhibit, which has been home to a variety of sea creatures since 1996, will close for nearly a year to repair and expand it to include different animals in the future. The exhibit is scheduled to reopen on July 1st of next year. The nearby Drifter’s gallery, which features jellyfish, is expected to remain open until early January, when it too will close for renovations.

A 19-year old suffered a gunshot wound while walking through a Monterey County park last week. Police say the teen, who was walking through Laguna Grande Park in the city of Seaside Thursday, was mistaken for a gang member when 2 men started to shout gang slogans at him. Police are still searching for the gunmen, anyone with any information is asked to contact the Seaside Police Department.

A 13 YEAR-OLD BOY DIED DOING WHAT HE LOVED. PETER LENZ, THE GRANDCHILD OF THE LENZ’S WHO OWN AND OPERATE LENZ ARTS ON FRONT STREET IN SANTA CRUZ, DIED AFTER A MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT DURING HIS WARM-UP LAP AT INDIANAPOLIS MOTOR SPEEDWAY YESTERDAY (SUNDAY). HE WAS SCHEDULED TO COMPETE IN THE U.S. Grand Prix Racers Union event. LENZ WAS ALREADY A WELL-KNOWN RACER, AND HAD WON 9 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS AS WELL AS 9 REGIONAL TITLES.
PETER LENZ’S FATHER, MICHAEL LENZ, IS SAID TO BE A 1991 GRADUATE OF HARBOR HIGH SCHOOL IN SANTA CRUZ, AND PETER ALSO SPENT SOME TIME HERE IN SANTA CRUZ, ALTHOUGH HE HAD MOST RECENTLY BEEN LIVING IN WASHINGTON STATE.

2 teens were taken into custody over the weekend after attempting to break into a Marina home. The home’s owner reported 2 men had forced their way into the Palm Avenue home through an open bedroom window about 3:05 a.m. Saturday. The 2 juveniles, who fled once confronted by the homeowner, were found by police and were booked into Monterey County Juvenile Hall on charges of burglary, being under the influence of alcohol and curfew violations.
