MCO PARK FARTHER PROJECT KICKS OFF 09-08-10 11:30 a.v.

A project aimed at encouraging people to live a healthier lifestyle, was kicked off yesterday in Monterey County. The Park Farther project was created by The Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System in an effort to help address childhood obesity and diabetes. The project, which designates a number of spaces within retail parking lots in Monterey County, involves walking further to the customer’s destination.

HEROIN DEALER ARRESTED - 09/08/10 17:57 S.S.

A  SUSPECTED  HEROIN  DEALER  WAS  ARRESTED  THIS  WEEK  IN  WATSONVILLE,    AFTER  HE  WAS  FOUND  WITH  100  GRAMS  OF  HEROIN  IN  HIS  VEHICLE.     31  YEAR-OLD  JOSE  CALDERON  AVALOS WAS  PICKED  UP  ON  THE  200  BLOCK  OF  EAST  LAKE  AVENUE JUST  BEFORE  10  P.M.  TUESDAY  NIGHT.      HE  WAS  BOOKED  INTO  SANTA  CRUZ COUNTY  JAIL.

CA SUPREME COURT - FURLOUGHS - 09/08/10 17:46 S.S.

The  7-MEMBER  CALIFORNIA  SUPREME  COURT IS  EXPECTED  TO  RULE  ON  WHETHER  GOVERNOR  ARNOLD  SCHWARZENEGGER HAS  THE  AUTHORITY  TO  FURLOUGH  MORE  THAN  200-THOUSAND  STATE  WORKERS,  (TO  SAVE  THE  STATE  SOME  MONEY.        BECAUSE  THE  FURLOUGHS  CALL  FOR   A  SHORT  WORK-WEEK  AND  A  14  PERCENT  REDUCTION  IN  PAY  REDUCED,   the STATE  COMPTROLLER  SAY  IT  VIOLATES  CALIFORNIA’S  COLLECTIVE  BARGAINING  LAW AND  THE  40-HOUR  WORK  WEEK.        A  STATE  ATTORNEY HAS  ARGUED  THAT  THE  GOVERNOR  HAS   THE  “IMPLIED  AND  INHERENT” AUTHORITY  TO  MAKE  CHANGES…WHEN  the  STATE  FACES  A  CASH  CRISIS.

BAKERY OWNER IN CRITICAL - 9/08/10 17:45 S.S.

THE  OWNER  OF  A  SALINAS  BAKERY  IS  LISTED  IN CRITICAL  CONDITION  IN  A  BAY  AREA  HOSPITAL.    THAT  AFTER  HE  WAS  SHOT  AROUND  1  O’CLOCK  THIS   MORNING,   AT  HIS  BUSINESS  ON  EAST  ALISAL  STREET.    SALINAS  POLICE  OFFICERS  ARE  REVIEWING  SOME  VIDEO  SURVEILLANCE  TAPES,   THAT  MAY  HAVE  CAUGHT  THE  SHOOTER  AT  THE  BAKERY.

GREENFIELD TEEN BACK IN COURT - 09/08/10 17:17 S.S.

A  monterey  county  judge  is  expected  to  decide  in  early  november,   if  a  Greenfield  teen  should  be  tried  as  a  juvenile  or  an  adult.    The  teen  is  accused  of  a  December  5th shooting  of  2  women  who  were  in  a  Greenfield motel  room.    30  year-old  Veronica  Gallegos was  pronounced  dead  at  the  scene,   while  Yvonne  Martinez was  taken off  life  support  about  a  week  later.    The  teen  is  scheduled  to  attend  a  readiness  hearing October  25th,  and  his  “fitness”  hearing November  8th.
