4 MEN HAVE BEEN ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH THE JULY SHOOTING DEATH OF A 17 YEAR-OLD SALINAS BOY. The arrests were made yesterday AT 2 SEPARATE SALINAS RESIDENCES. 19 YEAR-OLDS RICARDO MARTINEZ AND ROBERTO MONTEJANO, ALONG WITH 20 YEAR-OLD SANTIAGO ORTIZ AND 22 YEAR-OLD ALBERTO COLIN WERE BOOKED INTO MONTEREY COUNTY JAIL. THEY FACE CHARGES OF HOMICIDE, CONSPIRACY, AND GANG ENHANCEMENTS.

A Hollister man wanted on suspicion of assaulting a young girl, was taken into custody last week. 37-year old Jason Ayala was arrested Friday from a family member’s home in Porterville, after police issued a warrant for his arrest on charges alleging lewd acts with the girl. Police responded on August 9th when the juvenile reported Ayala had assaulted her that day and on a previous occasion. Ayala was booked into San Benito County Jail on $100,000 bail.

A Watsonville man was arrested after a failed carjacking attempt yesterday afternoon. The car’s owner, a 40-year old Watsonville woman, left the keys in the car’s ignition at around 3 p.m. when she went to drop her kids off at the Freedom branch of the Watsonville Library, and saw a man enter and start her car. The woman was pulled into the car while she tried to take the keys away from the man, was dragged 30-feet, and was nearly run over by the carjacker. 46-year old Mark Anderson, who reportedly abandoned the car near Chappell Road and Ross Avenue off of Airport Boulevard, was arrested on suspicion of carjacking, assault, robbery and hit-and-run.

A 30-year old Salinas man has been convicted on 8 counts of rape after being charged with the kidnapping and sexual assault of 2 Soledad woman 4 years ago. Nicolas Cimientos along with 3 others, abducted the 2 women on the June 3rd of 2006 at knifepoint, then drove them to a field South of Castroville, where they were repeatedly raped by the 4 men. Cimientos, who faces a minimum sentence of 50-years to life, and a possible 200-years to life in prison, was found guilty on all 8 counts of rape, as well finding that the victims were in fact kidnapped by Cimientos, who was the driver of the vehicle used to transport the women from where they were kidnapped.
