Bed Bugs are on the rise in Santa Cruz county. That's according to Santa Cruz Environmental Health officials who have received 4 reports so far this summer of local motels being infested with the pest, which does not carry disease. Two of those complaints were received by guests staying at the Aqua Breeze Inn. The Santa Cruz Environmental Health Services Department, who is working closely with the motels, says it doesn’t have the authority to regulate bed bugs, however the City of Santa Cruz is considering an ordinance to control and terminate their presence.
