FORMER YOUTH GROUP LEADER SENTENCED 09-09-10 19:50 a.v.

A former Salinas youth group leader was sentenced today to spend 12-years in state prison for child molestation. 21-year old Erick Mendoza pleaded guilty last month to 2 felony counts of forcible lewd lewd and lascivious acts with a minor under the age of 14. Mendoza worked for about a year at the Pentecostal Nueva Vida church on the 8-hundred block of Beech Street prior to being arrested on November 23rd for sexually abusing an 11-year old. Mendoza will be required to register as a sex offender.

BED BUGS FOUND IN S.C.MOTELS 09-09-10 19:40 a.v.

Bed Bugs are on the rise in Santa Cruz county. That's according to Santa Cruz Environmental Health officials who have received 4 reports so far this summer of local motels being infested with the pest, which does not carry disease. Two of those complaints were received by guests staying at the Aqua Breeze Inn. The Santa Cruz Environmental Health Services Department, who is working closely with the motels, says it doesn’t have the authority to regulate bed bugs, however the City of Santa Cruz is considering an ordinance to control and terminate their presence.

WVILLE SERIAL GROPER STRIKES AGAIN 09-09-10 19:25 a.v.

A serial groper, who has been linked to grabbing teenage girls and young women walking alone in various locations in Watsonville, struck again this week. Police say the man walked up behind a 15-year old girl and groped her on Green Valley Road near Quiet Meadow Drive at around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday evening. The girl reportedly fled and was not physically hurt, meanwhile her attacker is still being sought. Police say the groper struck a dozen times since March, most recently in early July.

K.C. HOMICIDE ARREST 09-09-10 19:15 a.v.

An 18-year old Greenfield man was arrested yesterday in connection with a King City Homicide that occurred 6 months ago. Paul Duran Junior was booked into Monterey County Jail on suspicion of murder, criminal conspiracy and gang-crimes after 25-year old Armando Ulloa died from multiple gunshot wounds on March 3rd. Police say Ulloa was walking home on the 500 block of North Vanderhurst, when 3 men approached him and opened fire.

SOLEDAD GANG ARRESTS 09-09-10 19:00 a.v.

Multiple gang members were arrested in Soledad in the past 2 days. 2 juveniles were taken into custody after attempting to burglarize a home just before 9 a.m this morning. The arrests came after a neighbor noticed suspicious activity at the home in the 1100 block of Vista Del Soledad. Police are still searching for a 3rd suspect in the attempted burglary. Meanwhile, today's arrests follow a South Monterey County gang sweep that netted 7 arrests in Soledad yesterday. Police say most of those arrested were gang members.
