MONTEREY BEACH ADVISORY LIFTED 09-10-10 11:55 a.v.

As of yesterday, a beach advisory for Monterey Municipal Beach has been lifted. Authorities posted a warning on Wednesday September 8th due to high levels of bacteria found in samples taken September 7th. Follow up samples reveal that bacteria has subsided to levels considered safe for recreational contact.

MAN’S BODY FOUND IN WATSONVILLE 09-10-10 11:40 a.v.

Watsonville Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating a badly decomposed body that was found in a rural area in Watsonville yesterday. Authorities say the man’s body was found in a wooded area on the 300 block of Casserly Road at around 10 a.m. The man’s cause of death, along with his identity, age, and race, are being investigated. An autopsy is scheduled for today.

GILROY CAR CRASH FATALITY 09-10-10 11:30 a.v.

The CHP has reported a fatality this morning in the Gilroy area between Casa De Fruita and Dinosaur Point on Pacheco Pass. The crash involved 2 vehicles traveling Eastbound just before 10 a.m. at Highway-152 and Bell Station Road. Eastbound lanes on Bell Station Road were closed as of 10:10 a.m. and are expected to remain closed until noon.  Meanwhile, a coroner has been called to the scene.  Police are diverting traffic in the area.

DOWNTOWN S.C. SEWER PROJECT 09-10-10 10:40 a.v.

The City of Santa Cruz Public Works Department will begin work next week on repairing a sewer main in the downtown area. Construction work is slated to start Monday September 13th and is expected to be completed by the end of the month. The work will consist of replacing the sewer main and manhole on May Street between Water Street to Hubbard Avenue. Residents and businesses will be able to continue to use their plumbing during construction. Street parking will be prohibited during construction hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and traffic will be restricted to local traffic only.

POSS.STATE PARKS FACILITIES CLOSURE 09-10-10 09:00 a.v.

 

Monterey County State Parks officials warn that if California continues without a budget, park visitors may be soon have do without restrooms and other basic services. A Monterey sector state parks superintendent announced yesterday that budget-related issues are already affecting various operations at state parks. At Carmel River State Beach, restrooms were closed Tuesday after service was cutoff by Cal-Am water due to unpaid water bills. Officials fear that other accounts with the water utility, will affect the closure of other facilities since an arrangement has yet to be worked out with Cal-Am.
