Smart Meter Forums 09/12/10 10 pm TDH

P.G. and E. representatives are scheduled to host a series of forums to address concerns with the company's new Smart Meters.   P.G. and E. is replacing existing meters with electronic ones, however some residents have raised concerns about the meters' accuracy and the safety of their wireless technology.    The first meeting is set for today(Mon), from 5:30 to 9 p.m., at the Scotts Valley Senior Center at 375 Kings Village Road.   Meetings are also scheduled for September 22nd in Capitola, September 30th in Watsonville, and October 13th in Santa Cruz.

S.C. Inter-faith Gathering 09/10/10 6pm TDH

An inter-faith gathering is planned to be held this Sunday in Santa Cruz, to celebrate religious diversity and freedom.   The Interfaith Dialogue Group of Santa Cruz is set to hold the gathering at 5 p.m., at the Santa Cruz clock tower at the north end of Pacific Avenue.  Local Jewish, Christian, and Muslim leaders are scheduled to attend the event, along with public officials.

Autopsy Confirms Homicide 09/10/10 5:45pm TDH

 An autopsy performed on a former Salinas attorney has led authorities to believe that the death is a case of homicide.   The Monterey County Coroner’s office announced today(fri) that 58-year-old Mark Hafen died as a result of blunt force head injuries due to bludgeoning.    Hafen’s girlfriend, 42-year-old Virginia Turner has been arrested in the case, and charged with homicide.   She is still looking for an attorney, and is due in court on September 14th.

Sal. man sentenced 09/10/10 5 pm TDH

A 34-year-old Salinas man was sentenced today(Fri) to 36-years in prison.    Roman Loques was convicted of 6-counts of sexual assault, relating to a 2008 revelation by a minor that she had been molested by Loques for years.  Authorities discovered he had also molested a sibling of the victim.   Roman Loques will be required to register as a sex offender.

Body Found, W.V. 09/10/10 4:45 pm TDH

The decomposed body of a man was discovered yesterday(Thursday) in Watsonville.   The body was found by a field worker at 10 a.m. in a wooded area in the 300-block of Casserly road.   Results of an autopsy scheduled for today have not been released.  Authorities are so far unsure of the victim’s identity, age, time of death, or cause of death.
