After a 2-month long investigation, 2 San Jose drug dealers were arrested this week after Santa Cruz police and federal drug agents confiscated 2,000 ecstasy pills. 20-year old Davis Bui Nguyen and 21-year old Martin Huynh, who are thought to be mid-level distributors, were transporting the drugs from San Jose to Santa Cruz. Police say the drugs were worth as much as $14,000. The 2, who were pulled over Wednesday in Nguyen’s green Toyota van on the 500 block of Water Street at around 5:25 p.m., were arrested on suspicion of possessing and transporting a controlled substance.

A Marina man was arrested today on child endangerment charges after drugs were found inside an apartment he shared with his 3 young children. Officers conducting a welfare check at an apartment on the 3,000 block of Lake Drive, smelled a marijuana coming from inside the home. 27-year old Rodney Jason Jermaine Cole along with his children, a 3-year old, a 2-year old and a 9-month old, were also inside the home. Officers conducted a search and seizure and learned Cole was on probation for robbery. During the altercation, Cole tried destroying the evidence by ingesting cocaine. He was hospitalized before being booked into Monterey County Jail on multiple charges.

A petition to extend a quarter-cent sales tax is being generated by a Scott’s valley council woman. Council woman Stephany Aguilar hopes that enough signatures will place the sales tax extension on the ballot early next year, even though the extension was not voted on by Scotts Valley City Council members. Aguilar claims the sales tax extension is the only viable fiscal option the city has regardless of the 2.5 million dollars in general fund reserves. However, Scotts Valley mayor, Jim Reed says asking the citizens of Scotts Valley for a tax extension is irresponsible. He believes there other potential revenue streams as reasons to hold off going to voters.

A 21-year old Salinas man was sentenced to spend 14-years in jail for a drive-by gang related shooting that occurred last year. Ivan Sandoval pled no contest to one count of assault with a semi-automatic weapon and admitted to a gang enhancement charge for the May 16th crime. Sandoval, who was the driver in the incident, pulled up along side a car containing 5-young people in the area of North Main Street and Iris Drive, when the passenger in the car with Sandoval opened fire on the victim’s car, striking the driver. The victim survived multiple gun shot wounds.
