WHS Principal 09/20/10 0800 E.A.

A teacher at Watsonville High School has been named as principal of the school. Elaine Legorreta began teaching social studies at the high school in 1997. Legoretta was assistant principal for four years in addition to her duties as a teacher.

Mo. Co. Growth Plan 09/20/10 0800 E.A.

A plan outlining Monterey County's growth and development over the next 20 years could be completed on Tuesday. The Monterey County Board of Supervisors expect to complete a draft plan at their meeting Tuesday night, which would outline issues such as water supply and construction of new homes and businesses. Any agreement reached on the general plan won't take effect until the final complete plan is approved.

L.O. HELLS ANGEL MEMBER ARRESTED 09-20-10 09:00 a.v.

A Live Oak Hells Angel Member was arrested after a search warrant was issued last week. William “Billy” Bettencourt was taken into custody after officers served the warrant at his home Friday and found him armed with a semi-automatic handgun. Officials say Bettencourt has a prior felony conviction, which prohibits him from possessing a firearm. Bettencourt was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail on suspicion of felony battery, possession of a firearm, possession of steroids for sale and participation in a criminal street gang.

CA Budget 09/19/10 TDH

California lawmakers are expected to resume budget negotiations today(Mon), after talks on Friday ended without any progress.   Friday also marked a new record, for the longest the state has gone without passing an operating budget.   The previous record was 78 days over the deadline.   Monday marks the 82nd late day for passing a budget.   Lawmakers are trying to agree on how to close a 19-billion dollar gap between expected revenue and projected spending.

W.V. Residential Fire 09/19/10 TDH

A residential fire in Watsonville displaced 14-people on Saturday.   The blaze erupted in the kitchen of an add-on building at a house on Shady Oaks Drive.   1-woman was treated at a local hospital for smoke inhalation, however there were no other injuries.   The flames were extinguished within 5 minutes, at about 9:15 a.m.  The fire is estimated to have caused 20-thousand dollars worth of damage.  Investigators are looking into what caused the blaze, but it is suspected to have started from an oven that had been left on.   The unit is believed to have been built without proper permits.  The Red Cross is helping the displaced residents find lodging.
