2 people are dead after a double shooting occurred in Santa Cruz last night. Upon receiving a domestic disturbance report at around 11:15 p.m., Santa Cruz Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a Soquel home at the corner of Soquel and Dover drives to find a man and a woman dead. Soquel Drive between Winkle Avenue and Mattison Lane was closed while an investigation was being conducted into the double homicide. 2 hikers were critically injured after falling 20-to-25 feet onto rocks at a beach South of Davenport Wednesday afternoon. The 2 men, ages 21 and 25, reportedly slipped while they were climbing up a cliff at Panther Beach just off Highway-1 at around 4:35 p.m. Cal-fire, State Park rangers and Santa Cruz firefighters all responded to the scene, with dozens of medics and rangers. The 2 were air-lifted to different area trauma centers.

In an effort to meet it’s deadline today, Pacific Collegiate School and the Santa Cruz City Schools District announced an agreement to renew a 5-year lease for the school’s current Swift Street location. The parties also resolved a disagreement over whether the school would change it’s enrollment practices to give a preference to students who live within the city district. The 2-sides signed a lease effective through July 30th of 2014. It includes a provision for automatic, annual renewals and calls for 3-year notice by either side before it can be terminated.

An investigation this week revealed the driver of a Monterey-Salinas Transit bus did not yield to an 87-year old man prior to fatally striking him last week. Seaside resident 49-year old Taylor Norisett was driving the M-S-T bus when he failed to yield the right of way on September 16th when Monterey resident, Samuel Conboy was walking in a crosswalk at Pacific Street and Del Monte Boulevard. The police report has been forwarded to the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office with recommendations for review of vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence against Norisett.
